Melbourne Cup may not be a boon to everyone

The coveted Melbourne Cup sees most of the roads in Australia come to a standstill, but that does not bode well for many and quite a handful of Aussie businessmen have voiced their opinion to go against the race. Sydney’s Newtown Hotel is at the forefront of this ‘f**k the Cup’ movement initiated through Facebook about a month ago. People have vehemently supported the movement against a ‘historic’ race. Voicing against horse cruelty, which has seen quite a number of horses either being euthanized or rendered immobile. Coparing it with greyhound racing and animal abuse users took it to Facebook and expressed their feelings in the comment section.

However, many dubbed this as Anti-Australian and a Hipster act to look cool. This has triggered a massive comments section which has also been taken to Twitter by many. People have pointed out Newtown Hotel’s hypocrisy as they have meat in their menu, but all of a sudden take part in the animal abuse bandwagon.
